Looking to the Future
It wasn't that long ago that Snowboards were called 'Snurfers', and gas was .89 cents a gallon. We would have thought Global Warming was a good thing, and "Paper or plastic" meant pay with cash or credit.
Well today, we know a little more. There is not an infinite supply of fossil fuels, and even if there were, and we kept on burning it at the current rate, would this be the world we want to leave our children?
We are doing our part at Berkshire East to walk that line between exposing people to the great outdoors, and preserving the great out doors itself, at the same time.
We are undertaking many new initiatives that we are excited about. We are also recommitting to the ones we have already started.
Below is a list of the areas we are either currently or plan to be heavily involved in, to reduce the carbon footprint of the resort, and thus guaranteeing its longevity for generations to come;
-
Wind Tower
-
Wood Furnace
-
New fuel efficient cats
-
50% energy cutting light fixtures
-
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
-
New energy efficient lodges.
We are also excited about our new direction to make Berkshire East a fun family Resort for all four seasons, not just Winter. We can sum it up in one word: Zip! The thrill of flying down an open slope, only its mid July, and you are 200 feet off the ground!
So come up and get outdoors all year long. We'll leave a light on for ya. (One of those curly low energy ones!)
